Oona's Story
🌿 Oona’s Story 🌿
It was coming. I knew it was but I knew I couldn't tell him, so I ran and kept running until my toes began to hurt. I needed to get him out of here safely, but how? As we were running through the jungle this boy kept slapping me and telling me something but how was I, an elephant, supposed to know what he wanted? So I went faster.
As we were running through the jungle there were leaves everywhere, I decided to grab a few and eat them on the journey. It was gonna be a long one I knew that for sure, As we came up to a big hill I slowed down to a speedy trot. There was that boy looking behind us, he let out a big gasp and I wondered why.
He said something but I didn’t know what he said. I knew that he had said something and It sounded like waves and I knew what waves meant and as soon as he said waves, I took off at a speed that was very fast. I didn’t even know I could go that fast.
There was that boy sitting on me just looking sad, so I tried to cheer him up by grabbing some leaves and munching them up as slowly as I could.I looked behind me and saw the boy and he was laughing very hard. He looked hungry, at least I thought he did so I decided to get him some food.
I picked the nicest orange coconut that I could find and then wrapped it in my trunk and lifted my trunk so it was right in front of the boy. He at once lifted his head, grabbed the food and gave me a big hug. After that every time I passed a coconut tree I gave him one.
That night we slept on the floor. He grabbed heaps of leaves and put them on the ground so the leeches didn’t get him. The next day he was walking down the river and I was scared that he was going to leave me here. I needed him and he needed me, so I chased after him and then he just stood there and hugged me. I think I had just changed his mind!

Alone on a Wide Wide Sea End
I think what made this story so good and effective was that so many things happened like being with Aunty Megs made the story really good and happy and Allie being with the albatross made her happy so it made the reader happy as well. In the book they used a historical event because Arturs favourite poem was The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
I really enjoyed the parts with Aunty Megs in it because she made Marty and Arthur very happy and they had a great time with Aunty Megs. I did love Henry too, he was so cute he would always steal their socks and lie on their laps when they were feeding him.
Marty and Arthur had a special relationship because they went through a lot together like being at Piggy Bacon’s House but no matter how terribly Piggy Bacon treated them they always looked after each other and made each other happy.
After Marty died it seemed like everybody else did like Aunty Megs, Big Black Jack and Barnaby and then he got kicked out of the Ark this shows you how strong Arthur was to continue with his life.
I liked how the story always had some sort of connection like the albatross and the key. The key was always with Arthur and Allie brought it on her journey as well. And the Albatross was with Arthur at the start of the book, it was one of his first memories and then Allie had an albatross follow her for most of the journey.
In the end I was very surprised I did not think that they would find Kitty because I thought she would’ve moved away or died. I thought at the start of reading this book that the key unlocked a weapon to kill Piggy Bacon with.

Mahmoud and the End
Mahmoud was happy, was Ruthie really going to help him find his baby sister?! He really hoped that she would. Mahmoud went to school and made lots of friends that were refugees but most of them weren’t. But most importantly he had a great friendship with another refugee from Syria, his name was Liam. He had brown hair with hazel eyes quite similar to Mahmoud. Liam had a little brother as well and his name was Elijah. Mahmoud and Liam would go home each night and write letters to everyone in the town saying: Have you seen a little girl named Hana? She has Blonde\Brown hair with blue eyes and is now probably about 4 years old.
The next day at school Mahmoud and Liam were planning their bike ride down to the beach. They thought that they might stop at the ice cream parlour. For Mahmoud and Liam this was their usual meet up spot because they both loved ice cream, Mahmoud loved hokey pokey and Liam loved berry sorbet. It was already the end of the day, so Mahmoud and Liam were getting excited.
They rode their bikes down the red paved road and then 5 minutes later they arrived at the beach. People were everywhere! There sitting on the golden sand beach they saw a family with a little girl making a sandcastle, there was also a little boy writing his name. “WAIT A SECOND, who is that little girl!” Mahmoud said, looking at the girl building the sandcastle. He then went over and sat down next to her. They started playing in the sand and after a good look at the little girl he soon realised who she was! ”HANA! “ he yelled, after that he went up to Hana’s guardians and said “Excuse me, are you refugees and have you been given this little girl when you were escaping?” The man and woman said “Yes! We had been given her when a family was escaping and we have been trying to find them since”.
“YES! That was my family, this is my sister Hana.” said Mahmoud. The man and woman introduced themselves, they were called Ivy & Benjamin. Ivy and Benjamin said “It was amazing to have her, if our James was parted from us, I could not bear it. As much as we would love to keep her, it is better to be with her real family, so here you go you can take her”. Ivy said as she was crying her eyes out. “She was a real pleasure to have under our roof and we hope we took great care of her for you” said them both.
“Oh thank you, thank you!” Mahmoud hugged them and they hugged him back. Mahmoud grabbed Hana and put her on the bike with him. Hana was looking at him confused then after a few seconds, she smiled and realized who he was. “You haven’t forgotten me.” Mahmoud said softly. He started riding it very slowly he didn’t want anything to happen to her after what she had been through. Mahmoud and Liam rode back to Mahmoud’s house and he showed everyone who he had found. They hugged him so tight and well, Ruthie she was standing at the top of the stairs smiling and Mahmoud smiled back.

Children's War
Here is My Link to my Children's War Vocabulary Sheet & My 28th Maori Battalion I learnt about how the children had to knit socks and scarfs they also made handkerchiefs for all the soldiers at war.The Mothers would also make Gift Baskets with First aid kits and food. They would send letters to the soldiers. If I was a Soldier I think I would be very scared of all the bombs and guns going off everywhere.

All About Me
This week we have been doing activities around what we like. The first one I did was Secret who am I? which was a little bit hard because you had to make it so that it wasn't that easy to guess.
Waitangi Day 2021
This year I learnt about the Treaty of Waitangi
The Maori and the English had a treaty to see who would get the land but some of the Maori chiefs didn't want to sign it and others didn't even see it. Some of the translating went wrong and so the words in Maori weren't correct.
